Populism Speech

My name is Maria. I am 25 years old and live with my family in Argentina. It is a time of economic hardship and my family, unfortunately, is feeling the turmoil. My father was a beef farmer and in the last 20 years the export of beef has variously declined from 1.57 billion dollars to 561 million. We decided that due to the struggle in the beef economy we must move to the city and quickly regain our lives. We moved to Buenos Aires and all tried to find jobs to help improve our lives. Recently the economy has slowly gotten better but it is still nowhere near where it used to be. With an election coming up my father is hoping for a leader to defend us and help us prosper. My father’s favorite candidate is Juan Domingo Peroń. Peroń has told us that he is a protector of the people, like my father who are working. One of the things father likes the most about Peroń is his charisma. He saw him speaking once in Buenos Aires and said the way he talked was so captivating and so eloquent he immediately had his attention. He has so many things that he wants for us and so many ideas of what he is going to do to make our lives better! I am here today in hopes that I can convince you all why you should vote for Juan Domingo Peroń and hopefully better our wonderful country of Argentina.

On October 17th my father was one of the thousands of people who listened to Peroń speak after his release from being fired by a military coup and then being jailed. His wife Eva Duarte joined other union leaders and demanded his liberation. He spoke to the crowd on that October night and promised them that in the presidential election he will lead them to a strong and prosperous Argentina. After conservative Ramon Castillo’s leadership was taken over and left our country without a leader, Argentina is looking for a leader to unify us and make us proud to be Argentineans again! My friends, as Peroń promised on October 17th if he is elected into office we can have that again, we need that again!

When my family came to Buenos Aires, I was forced to get a job in a factory. Before that I had only helped my father on the beef farm and had never had a real job of my own. I wanted to help my family earn back our living so I was happy to get a job when we got to the city. Now that my family is really part of the working class I respect Peroń for his desire to help us. Peroń has different plans for the working class, including his idea of a declaration to help worker’s rights. In his proposed declaration, some of the different ideas include rights to work, which gives the members of society who, like myself must work in order to help our families, feel a sense of dignity in what we are doing. Another point that I personally find incredibly respectable is a right to the preservation of health. In that point Peroń explains that the society is responsible for the hygiene and security of the workplace. He also says that whoever the worker is, he or she should recover through rest. The point that means the most to me is the right to the protection of the family, in his point Peroń points out that the protection of the family is a part of the natural destiny of the individual. The worker’s well-being must be stimulated and favored by the community to encourage the improvement of humanity and the consolidation of the spiritual and material principles. My family is the most important thing to me. I work as hard as I do so that I can support them and we can stay together.

As the election grows closer, I beg you my friends to please vote for Juan Domingo Peroń. We all work to help ourselves and our families. Peroń recognizes this need and is going to help us, each and every one of us. We can be proud of ourselves, what we are doing and our great country of Argentina once again. So please my friends make the smart decision and vote Peroń and vote for success!
