Campaign speech in El Salvador 1930

Good afternoon my brothers,

I come to you today to address some issues that you, the people, have brought to my attention. As your elected representative, I will never forget that it is you that give me the authority to represent you and that I am merely the temporary voice of the people. However I realize that not all of the policies that I have promised in the past have been able to come about in the years that I have been in office, and I sincerely apologize for that. But as you all are aware that business is hard to enact in these hard economic times. But if you would invest your trust in me for four more years; I will make the return on your investment tenfold!
Those policies that allowed all these foreign nations come into our beautiful country and take our goods and natural resources, I, your brother, will work to repeal those horrendous policies. For the good of the people of Guatemala is not present in these policies, because they let foreign peoples come in and take the benefits that belong to YOU! Verily, I will not let these policies continue on their path of destruction across our great country that have devastated many of our brothers and sisters across this great land. I will work to restore economic stability but, instead of allowing the foreigners who have no interest in helping to support the people I will only allow the people of Guatemala major roles in our economy so we will never be abandoned from foreigners in our time of need ever again. In this way, there will be economic stability and it will be you who brings this country into economic prosperity. It only makes sense that the greatest people in the world should come to bring about the greatest achievement this country has seen since our glorious independence.
As I have states previously I have the upmost faith in all of you to bring this country back into the comfort we all once knew, I know this may seem a daunting task, however I know our will won’t waver and that we will succeed in all of our endeavors, because you, the people, are our country’s greatest asset. I realize the state of our country is horrible, but you should know that this will never happen again, because it will be you that will bring us up and continue to stimulate the economy, instead of awful foreign investor who created this mess that we are in. And so it will be the beginning of something great- the beginning of where we finally realize that we are just as capable of competing and we don’t need to rely on foreign people to do work that we can do just as good if not better! It will be you not me that will get out of this horrendous position, and I thank you it is truly a privilege to represent your voice in the government and if you want somebody that will listen to your voice then vote for me.
